One Sentence for second body paragraph. (Just like the sentence you just did) -Begin with your strongest piece of evidence An essay is a lot like a military operation. It takes discipline, foresight, research, strategy, and, if done right, ends in total victory. That’s why I stole my formula from an ancient military tactic, invented by the Spartans (the guys in the movie 300 ). This tactic was a favorite of great generals like Brasidas and Xenophon (an actual student of Socrates) and was deployed successfully in combat countless times. I figure: if this one trick can protect a ten thousand-man march through hostile territory, country after country, it can probably work for something as silly and temporary as a paper or an essay. 3. One sentence laying foundation for first body paragraph. (These are mini-theses for each point you will argue.) Ex: Though Gatsby was a bootlegger, he was driven by hope and love, rather than the greed that motivated his status-obsessed guests. 1. Rewrite third body paragraph thesis. -Introduce quotes/points like this: Broad->Specific->Analysis/Conclusion 7. Last sentence must transition to a general statement about human nature. “The American Dream — and any higher aspiration — requires a society that both looks forward and onwards as well as holds itself to corrective standards.” Let’s say you’re a high school student taking English or a college student stuck in a writing-intensive core class. You’re going to have to write a paper. It’s just a fact of life. So instead of fighting it custom essay writing service reviews, let’s just make it as easy as possible. 1. Begin with a broad examples of case studies in science, conclusive hook. This will be the meta-theme of the paper. Example from a paper on The Great Gatsby. “When citizens exhibit a flagrant disregard of morality and law, societies quickly crumble.” 1. Rewrite second body paragraph thesis. No longer is the professor grading you in terms of the prompt, because you have redefined the dynamic on your terms. You have taken the prompt and made it your own. By emphatically laying out your own rules and track, excellence is achieved simply by following them. You place the reader in the middle of the square good research paper outline examples, protected by all sides how to improve on essay writing skills, and methodically move them forward, defending doubts and objections as they arise. 2. Thesis. This needs to specify and codify the hook in relation to the prompt/subject. Ex: “This atmosphere as shown in F. Scott Fitzgerald’s The Great Gatsby — with blatant corruption and illegal activity — eventually seems to become all but incompatible with a meaningful incarnation of the American Dream.” Notes/Advice: Some say the thesis should go at the bottom of the intro instead of the top, which I think is a huge mistake. The point of a paper is to make an assertion and then support it. You can’t support it until you’ve made it. Unfortunately, they can also be annoying, tedious and obnoxious. Whether it’s a high school essay, a college research paper or even an important office memo at your new job, at any given moment chances are you’d probably rather not be doing it. And the fact that you HAVE to do it just adds to the misery.

All that troubles a government is trying to preserve and keep its citizens healthy. That might be the main reason why governments are pumping a lot of money in the health sectors as families invest a lot of money in the health of their loved ones. Unfortunately, as a lot is being invested in the health sectors there are many problems that trail behind them. These problems need to be handled economically and professionally in order to improve the health sectors. Last updated Sunday, January 05, 2014. See articles below for sources and references. As an enormous continent, various regions are seeing different results as they attempt to tackle the problem. Numerous local, regional and global initiatives are slowly helping, despite significant obstacles (such as poverty, local social and cultural norms/taboos, concerns from drug companies about providing affordable medicines what is an authors thesis statement, and limited health resources of many countries that are now also caught up in the global financial crisis). The number of people overweight or obese is now rivaling the number of people suffering from hunger around the world. Obese people were thought to be mainly from richer countries or wealthier segments of society, but poor people can also suffer as the food industry supplies cheaper food of poorer quality. The differences between the methods for prevention of acute and of chronic diseases greatly increase the scope and difficulty of the health educator’s job. Each person must be reached with the educational message in a way that will ensure his response, or else the efforts of health workers accomplish nothing. It is not enough to produce positive results with a few persons or even with the majority. Even approximating the achievement of such an all-inclusive goal will challenge every resource and all the imagination health educators can muster. Such community protection is not possible with the chronic diseases or accidents. Each individual is responsible for taking whatever action is necessary if he is to benefit from the various measures that medical science has provided for preventing or controlling today’s diseases. Furthermore, not only must the individual take the action, but he must do it at an early stage of the disease doctoral theses, at a time when the findings of medical science will still benefit him. So far as accidents are concerned, however, even though he tries to avoid hazards and to take all prescribed precautions, he is not always safe unless other people also know what to do and then do it. The preceding discussion of educational difficulties in coping with today’s health problems emphasizes the challenge with which health educators are faced. Let us look at a few implications of this challenge for educational content and method essay information technology, and for the appropriate places to concentrate our effort. Because the onset of a chronic condition is gradual, education regarding the accompanying physical changes is difficult. Early detection of the disease means that the individual must either take routine examinations or tests when he feels perfectly well, or else he must become skilled in detecting in himself slight deviations in functioning and seek attention before the disease or condition has progressed too far. The new and unique role of health education in helping to meet these problems can perhaps be clarified through a review of some of the differences between procedures that have been successful in solving the problems of the acute communicable diseases and those that are available for coping with today’s problems. Closely related to the lack of specific and precise methods of dealing with the chronic diseases is the difference in the manner in which these diseases occur. The onset of the chronic conditions is much more insidious than was the onset of the acute conditions, such as the contagious diseases. Therefore, the motivation to act with reference to the slowly developing problems of chronic disease is not nearly so great as was the motivation to act in preventing the contagious diseases. One other aspect of the educational content of today’s health problems that should be considered is that the action which must be taken to deal with the present problems frequently conflicts with some of our traditional value systems. We have been a pioneering people, more concerned with advancing our economic welfare and that of the country than with the health and other hazards encountered in the pioneering effort. As a result, we tend to look with a certain amount of disdain upon the person who is concerned with avoiding danger, or who exercises reasonable caution in avoiding crippling injuries or disabling disease. Could it be that this value system accounts in part for lack of concern about the rules of health, dangerous conditions around the home, or for the tendency to take unnecessary risks in order to get somewhere in under-record time? Now that we are no longer pioneers in the sense that we do not need to take undue physical risks in order to progress, should we not consider a change in implied approval, if not outright praise, that our culture places on those who disregard the rules for health and safety? If society frowned upon taking unreasonable and unnecessary chances, it might be a real stimulus to positive action for controlling the ravages of chronic diseases and accidents. Infrastructure and Surveillance These cross-cutting issues are not yet understood well enough to inform the development of systems for measuring and tracking their impact. Further exploration is warranted. The environmental health landscape will continue to evolve and may present opportunities for additional research, analysis, and monitoring. These hazards can impact health and safety. Maintaining healthy homes and communities is essential to environmental health. Environmental health is a dynamic and evolving field. While not all complex environmental issues can be predicted, some known emerging issues in the field include: The 6 themes of the Environmental Health topic area draw attention to elements of the environment and their linkages to health. Creating health-promoting environments is complex and relies on continuing research to understand more fully the effects of exposure to environmental hazards on people’s health. Poor environmental quality has its greatest impact on people whose health status is already at risk. Therefore, environmental health must address the societal and environmental factors that increase the likelihood of exposure and disease. The Built Environment 4 Kinney PL. This along with infectious diseases makes the burden even heavier on developing countries. Chronic diseases include heart disease, diabetes etc. What makes these diseases prevalent in developing countries? Three-Paragraph Definition Essay Example On Happiness, personal reflective essay on happiness.3/29/2017 It is thought that when we have money we could have power upon other persons, yet this would not guarantee that they would receive a high value among these people, respect and appreciation .However I consider that the abundance of wealth and power will never give much value to a person as knowledge and wisdom give. Another thing that money will not grant is our principles of moral. That is why this glory, wealth and power will not tag a person with a good reputation when the principles of moral and decorum it is in a shortage. Mr. Achor focuses on educational and business success for large-scale change. In my research, I was the target audience, and so my results are more personalized. Below I first discuss my personal results. I will then relate them to Achor’s more generalized research. The next piece of information that held true was that “No matter how happy they were with their original success” they raised the bar before happiness could be met. At first, I disagreed with Achor and thought that raising the bar was a competitive edge. That no matter what, if I pushed myself, I’d be better. Maybe that’s true essay on death penalty pros, but my experiment shows that raising the bar has NOTHING to do with my happiness state. They are completely separate things…unless up essay, I utilize happiness as a tool to help me reach my goals. RELIEVING stress directly impacts my happiness, but “higher achievement” never caused my happiness, a positive, reflective outlook did. The second MAJOR problem with this model is that the wild goose chase for success causes us to reflect on stress, frustration, and negative feelings; feelings that oppose happiness when in reality these feelings should have no affect on our happiness. These negative feelings and habits have set the slope on our “average line” for being normal. I don’t want to be normal college essay examples psychology, average. Average is a word I have tried to avoid my whole life, so now Mr. Achor has my attention. How do we free ourselves and reverse the formula…. The key to training the brain to become more positive is: “Flow”. another psych word, is anything you are “in the zone for” According to the reliable source Wiki, “Flow is the mental state of operation in which a person performing an activity is fully immersed in a feeling of energized focus, full involvement on line degree, and enjoyment in the process of the activity. In essence motivational essays, flow is characterized by complete absorption in what one does. Proposed by Mihály Csíkszentmihályi do survey research paper, the positive psychology concept has been widely referenced across a variety of fields”. I’ve learned that Flow is done for pleasure not because it has to be done, and the most important part about it is that it RELEASES STRESS. Why is this the most important part? The first thing I realized is the answers to the questions, what is happiness and how do we get it? Success–> greater success–> greater success–> which may eventually lead to happiness if we ever stopped changing the goal. The first problem with the formula is that we constantly raise the bar of success once it is achieved so that the formula never reaches happiness: This includes the aspect of time. Make time for those you love and to listen. How do we change the formula so that happiness comes first?
Focus on the happy bank: Okay, you’re probably thinking, say a few nice things and I’m happier? yeah right. The difference is at the end of the day I focused on these things, and thus I focused on the negative less write my essay australia, until I didn’t think about the negative at all…. This quote reveals two important points that complemented my study. The first is that happiness is an education, happiness is learning. Psychology believes that our individual constructs and beliefs about the world shape who we are. Achor’s experiment redefines these constructs by encouraging us to listen and connect with others through our social relations and thereby changing the lens through which we see the world. Second, positivity’s impact on success has the potential to span beyond the individual and impact larger business, educational abstract how to write dissertation, and societal roles. However, one person can detonate this change. This is true of our Business Ethics and Society Class. Professor Hess changed our social responsibility lens of Business before we had any other lenses. This will change my answers and outcomes to business dilemmas to one that is an outlier from the average corporate response. One of the strongest theories used to discuss about happiness is positive psychology that has focused on cognition, personality and mood. Every person has an innate sunny disposition. However, researchers from different backgrounds believe that human beings can learn how to create more meaning and gratification in life. So case studies in education journal, what is happiness? Can there be one definite statement used to define it? Well, most people believe that it is the thought of having a good life without suffering, having pleasure, prosperity and joy among other such like things. However, that cannot be enough to define happiness. May be it is just a part of it. People can still be happy even without material wealth. Again, not all rich people are happy. Therefore paper writing services review, happiness is more than what we think. It is not an end goal. Basically tuesday with morrie essay, it is something that is continuous and is founded on certain truths that go beyond having pleasure and getting tangible things that we ever wanted. According to Carol S. Pearson, author of “Awakening the Heroes,” a hero can also be caregivers, seekers, lover, destroyer, creator, ruler, magician, sage, fool, orphan, and martyr. The artist strives to be recognized and remembered for making memorable art. We see this in the work of many of the masters, such as Monet, Picasso, and Warhol. Like Hemingway, the writer is inspired to pen the masterpiece novel. The director seeks to make a film that stand the test of time, like Casablanca, Citizen Kane, or Psycho. The daredevil is drawn to the challenge of climbing the mountain, such as Mount Everest. The ordinary man finds religion and embraces the teaching of a particular faith and teacher, the religious hero. According to Becker, we seek to become a hero and immortalize our existence by focusing our time, energy essay on teamwork experience, attention on some hero project. *** Maya Angelou, a poet and essayist, said this about heroism: “I think a hero is a person really intent on making this a better place for all people.” On occasion, celebrities become heroes. One of them is Christopher Reeves who starred in the Superman films. But his acting career and life were cut short after he was thrown from a horse and became a quadriplegic. He required a ventilator to breath for the rest of his life. Despite his enormous handicap, Reeves strived to live the best life he could, spending much time and energy as an activist for spinal cord research. I’d call him a hero for all he endured. Heroism in ancient times was really about being good. People that helped others and didn’t only think of themselves. The Celts and Anglo-Saxon’s had the real heroes that were brazen and the bold, they did things that will be remembered for centuries because they were life changing events. Now in the modern world people, kids, everyone thinks that these celebrities’ rich people. people that really don’t do a thing to deserve to be called a hero Ashley Behrens Mrs. Burnham English 170 17 October 2014 Beowulf as An Epic Novel In the novel, Beowulf there are many examples of archetypes and symbols used. A few archetypes that the reader is sure to contemplate while reading Beowulf are heroic and evil forces. Symbols brought to attention in Beowulf are Grendel’s Hand and Mead Hall (Heorot). With the use of archetypes and symbols, the novel of Beowulf is easily classified as an epic. Beowulf’s heroism is the main archetype expressed in compass. 2. Who acts heroically in the novel, and by what definition of heroism? Many characters make small gestures or choices that are heroic because they stand against injustice. For instance, Paul’s choice to become attached to Jefferson is not consistent with the attitude toward black inmates that he has been advised to take; but he goes against the department, learning to like and admire Jefferson at the cost of grief over his death. Emma, too, in returning to Jefferson’s cell in “Operation Desert Storm “ and “Iraqi freedom”, and still continues to provide for his entire family. Growing up in Michigan, he learned at a very young age to always give back to those who gave you. Mr. ferguson lost everything in Michigan, he moved into the Iacopelli household, which was then located in Bartlett, Tennessee. This is where he showed his heroism, picking up his nephew from school, buying dinner, and taking care of his mother. What makes him such a hero, is how he got his life We have seen or heard of many extraordinary young men, who never ripened, or whose performance in actual life was not extraordinary. When we see their air and mien, when we hear them speak of society, of books, of religion, we admire their superiority, they seem to throw contempt on our entire polity and social state; theirs is the tone of a youthful giant, who is sent to work revolutions. But they enter an active profession, and the forming Colossus shrinks to the common size of man. The magic they used was the ideal tendencies, which always make the Actual ridiculous; but the tough world had its revenge the moment they put their horses of the sun to plough in its furrow. They found no example and no companion, and their heart fainted. What then? The lesson they gave in their first aspirations is yet true; and a better valor and a purer truth shall one day organize their belief. Or why should a woman liken herself to any historical woman, and think, because Sappho, or Sevigne, or De Stael, or the cloistered souls who have had genius and cultivation, do not satisfy the imagination and the serene Themis, none can,--certainly not she. Why not? She has a new and unattempted problem to solve, perchance that of the happiest nature that ever bloomed. Let the maiden, with erect soul, walk serenely on her way, accept the hint of each new experience, search in turn all the objects that solicit her eye, that she may learn the power and the charm of her new-born being, which is the kindling of a new dawn in the recesses of space. The fair girl, who repels interference by a decided and proud choice of influences, so careless of pleasing, so wilful and lofty, inspires every beholder with somewhat of her own nobleness. The silent heart encourages her; O friend, never strike sail to a fear! Come into port greatly, or sail with God the seas. Not in vain you live, for every passing eye is cheered and refined by the vision. To speak the truth, even with some austerity, to live with some rigor of temperance, or some extremes of generosity, seems to be an asceticism which common good-nature would appoint to those who are at ease and in plenty, in sign that they feel a brotherhood with the great multitude of suffering men. And not only need we breathe and exercise the soul by assuming the penalties of abstinence my childhood essay examples, of debt, of solitude, of unpopularity essay on death penalty pros, but it behooves the wise man to look with a bold eye into those rarer dangers which sometimes invade men, and to familiarize himself with disgusting forms of disease, with sounds of execration, and the vision of violent death. "Paradise is under the shadow of swords." Towards all this external evil, the man within the breast assumes a warlike attitude, and affirms his ability to cope single-handed with the infinite army of enemies. To this military attitude of the soul we give the name of Heroism. Its rudest form is the contempt for safety and ease, which makes the attractiveness of war. It is a self-trust which slights the restraints of prudence, in the plenitude of its energy and power to repair the harms it may suffer. The hero is a mind of such balance that no disturbances can shake his will, but pleasantly, and, as it were, merrily, he advances to his own music, alike in frightful alarms and in the tipsy mirth of universal dissoluteness. There is somewhat not philosophical in heroism; there is somewhat not holy in it; it seems not to know that other souls are of one texture with it; it has pride; it is the extreme of individual nature. Nevertheless, we must profoundly revere it. There is somewhat in great actions, which does not allow us to go behind them. Heroism feels and never reasons, and therefore is always right; and although a different breeding, different religion, and greater intellectual activity would have modified or even reversed the particular action, yet for the hero that thing he does is the highest deed, and is not open to the censure of philosophers or divines. It is the avowal of the unschooled man, that he finds a quality in him that is negligent of expense, of health, of life, of danger, of hatred, of reproach, and knows that his will is higher and more excellent than all actual and all possible antagonists. Citizens, thinking after the laws of arithmetic, consider the inconvenience of receiving strangers at their fireside, reckon narrowly the loss of time and the unusual display: the soul of a better quality thrusts back the unseasonable economy into the vaults of life, and says, I will obey the God, and the sacrifice and the fire he will provide. Ibn Haukal. the Arabian geographer, describes a heroic extreme in the hospitality of Sogd, in Bukharia. "When I was in Sogd, I saw a great building, like a palace, the gates of which were open and fixed back to the wall with large nails. I asked the reason, and was told that the house had not been shut, night or day, for a hundred years. Strangers may present themselves at any hour, and in whatever number; the master has amply provided for the reception of the men and their animals, and is never happier than when they tarry for some time. Nothing of the kind have I seen in any other country." The magnanimous know very well that they who give time, or money, or shelter, to the stranger--so it be done for love, and not for ostentation--do, as it were, put God under obligation to them, so perfect are the compensations of the universe. In some way the time they seem to lose is redeemed, and the pains they seem to take remunerate themselves. These men fan the flame of human love, and raise the standard of civil virtue among mankind. But hospitality must be for service, and not for show, or it pulls down the host. The brave soul rates itself too high to value itself by the splendor of its table and draperies. It gives what it hath, and all it hath, but its own majesty can lend a better grace to bannocks and fair water than belong to city feasts. Ruby wine is drunk by knaves, Sugar spends to fatten slaves, Rose and vine-leaf deck buffoons; Thunderclouds are Jove's festoons, Drooping oft in wreaths of dread Lightning-knotted round his head; The hero is not fed on sweets, Daily his own heart he eats; Chambers of the great are jails, And head-winds right for royal sails. But that which takes my fancy most, in the heroic class, is the good-humor and hilarity they exhibit. It is a height to which common duty can very well attain, to suffer and to dare with solemnity. But these rare souls set opinion, success, and life, at so cheap a rate, that they will not soothe their enemies by petitions, or the show of sorrow, but wear their own habitual greatness. Scipio, charged with peculation, refuses to do himself so great a disgrace as to wait for justification, though he had the scroll of his accounts in his hands, but tears it to pieces before the tribunes. Socrates's condemnation of himself to be maintained in all honor in the Prytaneum, during his life, and Sir Thomas More's playfulness at the scaffold, are of the same strain. In Beaumont and Fletcher's "Sea Voyage," Juletta tells the stout captain and his company,-- Jul. Why, slaves essay designer baby, 't is in our power to hang ye. So on this bell curve of humanity, villains and heroes are the outliers. The reluctant heroes are the rest. What we need to discover is how to give a call to service to this general population. How do we make them aware of the evil that exists? How do we prevent them from getting seduced to the dark side? Another story: Irena Sendler was a Polish hero, a Catholic woman who saved at least 2,500 Jewish kids who were holed up in the Warsaw ghetto that the Nazis had erected. She was able to convince the parents of these kids to allow her to smuggle them out of the ghetto to safety. To do this, she organized a network. Opportunity matters. Most acts of heroism occur in urban areas, where there are more people and more people in need. You’re not going to be a hero if you live in the suburbs. No shit happens in the suburbs! Here are a few key insights from research we’ve done surveying 4,000 Americans from across the country. Each of these statements is valid after controlling for all demographic variables, such as education and socioeconomic status. Take the Holocaust. Christians who helped Jews were in the same situation as other civilians who helped imprison or kill Jews, or ignored their suffering. The situation provided the impetus to act heroically or malevolently. Why did some people choose one path or the other? Education matters. The more educated you are, the more likely you are to be a hero, I think because you are more aware of situations. Of course religion and eduction has a big impact on a child. But once a child is trying to live a good life (earning good karma or call it whatever you want) good things will happen to that child and he or she will recognize this. My work on heroism follows 35 years of research in which I studied the psychology of evil apa research papers, including my work on the infamous Stanford Prison Experiment. The two lines of research aren’t as different as they might seem; they’re actually two sides of the same coin. The article that you have been shared is very awesome. This is a very nice compilation, possibly the best on the web. Hope to see more useful information from this site… What makes us good? What makes us evil? Generally I do not learn from posts on blogs, however I wish to say that this write-up very pressured me to check out and I did so! Your writing style has amazed me. Thank you, quite nice article. A first step is to take the “hero pledge,” a public declaration on our website that says you’re willing to be a hero in waiting. It’s a pledge “to act when confronted with a situation where I feel something is wrong,” “to develop my heroic abilities,” and “to believe in the heroic capacities within myself and others, so I can build and refine them.”
Some people argue humans are born good or born bad; I think that’s nonsense. We are all born with this tremendous capacity to be anything, and we get shaped by our circumstances—by the family or the culture or the time period in which we happen to grow up, which are accidents of birth; whether we grow up in a war zone versus peace; if we grow up in poverty rather than prosperity. I found this informative and interesting blog so i think so its very useful and knowledge able.I would like to thank you for the efforts you have made in writing this article. I am hoping the same best work from you in the future. My sons are my strength. My reason to help First, it’s performed in service to others in need—whether that’s a person, group, or community—or in defense of certain ideals. Second, it’s engaged in voluntarily, even in military contexts, as heroism remains an act that goes beyond something required by military duty. Third, a heroic act is one performed with recognition of possible risks and costs, be they to one’s physical health or personal reputation, in which the actor is willing to accept anticipated sacrifice. Finally, it is performed without external gain anticipated at the time of the act. Based on these insights into heroism, we’ve put together a toolkit for potential heroes, especially young heroes in training, who already have opportunities to act heroically when they’re kids, such as by opposing bullying. Become a member of the Greater Good Science Center to enjoy exclusive articles, videos, discounts, and other special benefits. So I think you can definitely change from evil to good. maybe you _can be changed_ from good to evil. Compassion evolved as a distinct affective experience whose function is to enable cooperation and protection of those who. This is an idea wonderfully represented in an illusion by M. C. Escher, at left. When you squint and focus on the white as the figures and the black as the background, you see a world full of angels and tutus dancing around happily. But now focus on the black as the figures and the white as the background: Now it’s a world full of demons. You also don’t have to kill anyone website for essay writing in english, conquer foreign land, or risk your life to be a hero. Anyone who influences anyone else by saving or helping save his or her lives is a hero. Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. changed the lives of millions of people by bringing justice to minorities. Mahatma Gandhi, one of the greatest heroes, led a nonviolent revolution to free his country. Even a parent can be a hero to his or her child by leading them in the right direction. All teachers are heroes when they make it their job to teach a child anything that will help them in life. You don’t have to go to great lengths by risking your life to make a difference in someone else’s life. |
